Task Import Wizard
A data migration tool with an interactive step-by-step wizard that enables bulk importing of tasks from external sources (CSV files, spreadsheets) directly into Orbitus task boards. Includes column mapping, data validation, and error handling.
Seamless Data Migration
Switching from another project management tool should not mean losing months of work history. The Task Import Wizard automates the migration process with a guided, step-by-step interface. Upload a CSV export from any external tool (Jira, Trello, Asana, Monday.com, or a custom spreadsheet), map columns to Orbitus fields, validate the data, and import hundreds of tasks into a board in minutes.
📤 File Upload
Start by uploading a .csv file containing your task data. The wizard accepts standard comma-separated files with headers. The first row is automatically detected as column headers and displayed in the mapping step.
🔗 Column Mapping
The wizard presents your CSV columns alongside Orbitus task fields. Map each source column to its corresponding target: "Task Name" → Title, "Assignee Email" → Assigned User, "Status" → Column/Stage, "Due Date" → Due Date, etc. Unmapped columns are skipped during import.
✅ Pre-Import Validation
Before committing, the system runs a comprehensive pre-flight check. It identifies: missing required fields, duplicate task titles, invalid date formats, unrecognized assignee emails, and malformed rows. Each issue is displayed with a clear error message and suggested fix, allowing you to correct your CSV before retrying.
⚡ Batch Processing
Upon confirmation, the backend processes all validated rows and creates individual task cards within the target board. Tasks are automatically distributed to the appropriate Kanban columns based on the mapped status field. A progress indicator shows real-time completion status during the import.
Step-by-Step: Migrating from an External Tool
- Export your tasks from the external tool as a CSV file.
- Navigate to
/admin/tasks/import. - Upload the CSV file using the file upload area.
- Map Columns: Match each CSV column to the corresponding Orbitus field.
- Select Target Board: Choose which task board should receive the imported tasks.
- Validate: Review the pre-flight check results. Fix any errors in your CSV if needed.
- Import: Click "Import" to start the batch processing.
- Verify: Navigate to the target board to confirm all tasks were imported correctly.
Enterprise Use Case: Jira to Orbitus Migration
A 50-person engineering department decides to consolidate all project management into Orbitus. They currently have 2,300 tasks across 12 Jira projects. The IT administrator exports each Jira project as a CSV file. For each file, they use the Task Import Wizard: upload the CSV, map "Summary" → Title, "Reporter" → Customer, "Assignee" → Assigned User, "Status" → Column, "Priority" → Priority, and "Due Date" → Due Date. The validation step catches 43 tasks with invalid assignee emails (former employees). After correcting the CSV, the import processes all 2,300 tasks across 12 boards in under 30 minutes. The team is operational on Orbitus by the next morning — with full task history intact.
